Circumstances

Life can be filled with challenges. Our perspective determines our attitude. We can either accept the challenge and conquer it or we can let it get the best of us and we become down cast. What do we do when we are feeling downcast? The Psalmist, David, says in Psalms 43:5 NKJV, “Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.”

David was ministering to his soul before the Lord. His trust was in the Lord. When our circumstances seem bigger than what we can handle, we need to remember how big our God is! When David slayed Goliath, he did not go in trusting his own ways and in his own strength. 1 Samuel 17:45-46 NKJV, “Then David said to the Philistine, ‘You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.’” My brothers and sisters, let this encourage you. Let this strengthen your inner spirit woman/man. The Lord goes before you to fight your battles! He is your strength and your shield! Let the faithfulness of God build you up! When you are downcast, speak to your circumstance using the powerful weapons that God has given us!

Our strength and hope does not come from ourselves…it comes from God above! In Deuteronomy 31:8 NKJV, it says, “And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” When our circumstances try to tell us who is boss, we need to use our voices and declare the word of God into our circumstance and remind our circumstance of the God that it defies! There is power in speaking the word of God! It brings down strongholds and changes the atmosphere! God is not a God of the dead but a God of the living! He created us with a hope and a future! When you read Jeremiah 29:11, what comes to your mind? What do you envision?

Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to you a future and a hope.”

Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of the promises that God has for us. Sometimes we need to remind God of the promises He made to us. God does not mind us speaking His word to Him. Isaiah 55:11 NKJV says, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void. But it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” As David mentioned in the above scripture from Psalms, the Lord is the help of our countenance. It is Him, the Potter, and us the, the clay, that is being molded and made into His beautiful workmanship.

When I share this with you, I am sharing this with myself too. I am reminding myself also of the goodness of God, the faithfulness of God. Being a Christian is not always easy and it won’t be. But if we come together, united in Christ, to remind each other, “Hey! It’s going to be ok! God loves you and has a plan for you! Don’t be discouraged! I go through the same things too, BUT GOD!” It’s our job to build each other up and to spur one another on. It’s called loving God and loving people. I want to encourage us today, remind us today to not get discouraged, to not let fear, anxiety, or depression overtake you! 1 John 4:4 NKJV says, “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” Don’t let the darkness overtake you, but be overtaken by the goodness and faithfulness of God. I want to close with Psalm 121 by speaking this over you today and the rest of our days.

Psalm 121

I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help?

My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you shall not slumber.

Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand.

The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night.

The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul.

The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in

From this time forth, and even forevermore.
